2004
July
The festivals have come and gone, all of
them were fun with attendances hit by the poor weather. The highlight would most
likely be the Christchurch festival which saw the band in high spirits
throughout the set. This atmosphere continued throughout the afternoon and
Kira and Roy went on stage again later to join Crosscut Saw in a storming
version of "Rocking in the free world".
Jun
We
are getting into the festival season again with The Christchurch, Bournemouth
and Brockstock all within a couple weeks of each other. Kira has also been
playing various solo acoustic gigs around and about which have been very well received.
Jan
Kira
and the band will again be playing at the Christchurch Festival this year. The
date has been confirmed as Sunday July 4th. The Festival is always an enjoyable
event with a good mix of musical styles.
2003
Oct
Plenty
of gigs during the last couple of months, with some of the highlights being at
Mr Smiths & Shenanigans. Shenanigans is a club night being run every Sunday
night in the Green Room at the Portman pub in Boscombe. It features all aspects
of roots music and is a well run night with a great atmosphere. Kira is next
there on Nov 9th as the headlining act.
July
A
good month with gigs played at both the Bournemouth & Christchurch
festivals. Also a number of solo appearances made. The radio station Rock 24-7
played Naked from the "Dream On" CD and also gave a good plug for the
rest of the CD and future events. Rock 24-7 is well worth listening to and can
be found on the fm at 106.6.
Kira
has also been confirmed on the bill for the Brockstock festival on Saturday August 9th
at 12:30 pm.
June
Dates
now confirmed for the Bournemouth International festival (Saturday 28th June
3pm) and the Christchurch festival (Sunday July 6th 12pm).
April
Arrangements are still being
put together but it looks very likely that Kira will be playing at various
festivals during the summer. These will include Christchurch, The Bournemouth
International Festival and also Brockstock. As soon as the dates are
confirmed we will show them here.
March
A
couple of gigs in for this month which are Mr Smith's on the 19th and Bartonka
on the 31st both of these are in Bournemouth. Kira has also been back to
the Rydal during the month and another gig is planned for early April.
February
The
working title for Kira's new CD is currently "Talk with your eyes". The
recordings are completed and the artwork is nearly finished.
There
is a good
strong bill lined up for the gig at Le Batteau in Parkstone on the 23rd so do try to be there.
January
2003
started well with new songs being written and recorded for the next CD due out in
early February. Some songs written a while ago have now been recorded. A Latin
feel has been added to songs like 'Please call'. The new material has a variety
of sounds and styles.
2002
December
The
month started with a solo acoustic gig at Bar van which was a nice evening with
some good acts on the bill.
November
Kira
will be appearing at the Rydal in New Milton on Sunday 24th November. This will
be an acoustic set and will start about 9:30pm.
October
& November are being spent recording tracks for a new Cd. It will be a
mixture of new songs along with some of the old favorites from the live set. It
is coming along well and should be ready for the new year.
September
Kira
has been concentrating on playing a series of solo gigs at venues such as the
Rydal, Bar Van and the Boscombe community fair. This along with recording new
songs has meant a pretty busy couple of months. The full band will be back at
the Thomas Trip on the 25th and will be performing several new numbers.
July
A
good time was had by all at the Christchurch festival which managed to avoid the
rain so everyone could sit in the sunshine enjoying the music. The festival was
really well organized and is fast becoming a big date in the gig goers
diary.
Review

By the time I made it to the site on Saturday, the Hedgemonkeys were
in full swing. This crowd-pleasing band really knows how to get people going,
always great value. They were followed by the Kira Band who played a
stunning set full of energy and excitement - matched only by that of the crowd!

June
No
gigs lined up for June yet. Kira will continue to record and rehearse with the
band in preparation for the Chirstchurch Festival and the Cellar Bar.
She
will also be in LA and will be going to various venues to perform at 'Open Mics' sessions
with other local musicians.
Kira's
song "Another Ticket Another Destination" from the Little Demons CD
was voted track of the week in the Burb's sound room for June so thanks to all
who voted.
May
May will be a busy month for Kira.
She is rehearsing with a full band to play at an open air event on Sunday May
5th. On the following day bank holiday Monday, Kira will join other acoustic
acts at Bar Vin and continue to try out some of the new material in a live
situation.
May 16th Kira will be at
Bartonka bands night with her band. She will be joined by Psiren for a great
evening of local live music.
April
Although
busy recording new material, Kira stepped out to the Ryday on April 21st to try
some of the new songs live. A new song called 'Now you see' proved to be
instantly accepted and worth recording.
The
gig at the Rydal was enjoyable and laid back and easy like Sunday evening....
March
Kira
will now start rehearsals with the band to get ready for some music events
taking place in the summer starting at the beginning of May and Christchurch
Festival on the 6th of July.
During
March and April, Kira will also start recording some new songs she has been
writing this year. "After writing a song and playing it on the acoustic
guitar for a while, it is nice to record the song in a basic format, sit back
and listen in order to make up your mind about the song", says Kira.
The
gig at the Rydal in New Milton was a new venue to play and the evening was made
up of various acts performing sets of around 30 minutes each. Kira closed the
evening and was accompanied by Roy and Paul on acoustics. During the set they
played one of the old Zuma songs "Los Ninos" which was a surprise for
Roy as the last time he had played the song live was about 5 years ago. The
whole evening was very well supported and I think that as a venue the Rydal is
here to stay.
February
The gig at the
Thomas Trip was a lot of fun with Kira and her band being joined on stage by the
legendary percussionist Dr Zodiac. The evening was very well attended and the audience
were also entertained by the return of Lance Riley once of Bewley Brothers
fame. All in all a really good evenings entertainment. What more could you
expect on a wet Wednesday evening in Christchurch.
The solid air acoustic session at
Bartonka was another of Conrad's "ladies nights" and once again showed
what incredible female musical talent there is in the area. The evening started
with Sarah Joyce who accompanied herself on acoustic guitar and got the evening off to
a great start. Next up was a young poet who was performing her own poems live
for the first time, who would have known? Then Kira took the stage backed
by Roy, Paul & Dr Zodiac. They performed 4 numbers from the Little Demons
CD. Starting with Caveman they then went straight into the Song of Us followed
by Hush Hush and then closed with a storming version of The Girl of His Dreams.
A short set but it covered the different styles and moods of Kira's song's
perfectly. The evening closed with a band from Portsmouth who were fronted
by a fine vocalist backed up by a fiddle player who between them produced some
fine melodic interchanges. All in all another varied but memorable night at
Bartonka.
At O'Neils Kira played for the
first time with a full band. With Mike Nicholls previously with Breeze on drums
who complimented
the songs really well. With Jools on bass and backing vocals, Roy Watson on
lead guitar and Paul Bass on acoustic rhythm guitar the line up was complete. The
band created a lot of energy on stage covering tracks from the Little Demons
CD, along with Dreams by Fleetwood Mac and the 4 Non Blondes song What's up.
